Morning!!!
Of course, for those of you in North America it isn’t morning. Looks like its 4pm on August 4th. Right now it’s 6am here on the 5th. Weird.
This will be day 2 of no airports or airplanes. Thank heavens.
Speaking of heaven… I found out a couple days ago that my very dear friend, Tom (from work) passed away. I really don’t have words how horrible I feel about it. It is easy to be distracted here in a beautiful country I am sure it will be difficult when I return to work and I know the cubicle next to me will no longer have his sarcastic self in it. He suffered for over 5 years from liver disease, waiting to get on the transplant list. I am glad he didn’t suffer even longer with cancer.
I am sorry though that he did not have the time or the health to make it here to Australia with his lovely wife.
So… I guess I will have to enjoy it with him in mind.
Teresa would be happy to know that it is still dark but the kookaburras are laughing outside… must be morning. Peter says they are supposed to be lucky (unless you are a window pane, I suppose). I haven’t seen one… I can just hear them. Yesterday afternoon they went on for about 10 minutes or more. I was trying to have a nap. No nap.
As the sun comes up all the birds go crazy here! Yesterday I saw his lorikeets, though I didn’t feed them (Still in shock to wake up here, I think). I also saw king parrots. They are bright red and gorgeous. I will insert photos into the blog if I can catch them.
After coffee Peter and I went for a nice drive around the area. It is very beautiful and quaint. He took me to the beach… okay… “the” beach is a bit of a silly thing to say. Everywhere is beach. We had coffee in a little restaurant that overlooks the beach and had yummy coffees and a bacon and egg sandwich. Oh thank goodness they have good bacon here. Else I’d be heading home.

We walked on the beach for a while. The water was quite still but the waves as they hit the shore are quite powerful. I think the tide was coming in. But even on a small scale you can see why it would be good for surfing when the waves get going.
After that we went to a boardwalk… I cannot remember the name. It used to be one of Peter’s favourite places. As we walked along and looked into the water (it is on an inlet of some sort) we saw an octopus and sting rays!!! There were so many fish you couldn’t even count them. They must be smart fish, because I saw quite a number of fishermen and didn’t see them catching much. HAHA! And yes... this is one of my own photos... :D
We then went to a little eatery which literally was on the water. I believe it was primarily a seafood place. We had a massive bowl of tempura… scallops, crab, calamari… but best were little filets of fish… I wish I knew what it was.
But I was too tired to ask. I think I’ve done relatively well with jet lag… but I ran out of steam pretty quickly. Or maybe it’s just the fresh air. Perhaps both.
I wonder when the sun comes up? I want to try to get pictures of the parrots that come visiting today.
